5 tips for extending your tourist season

With the arrival of the fall, the number of tourists decreases significantly. The question that most renters ask is how to extend the tourist season and attract a larger number of guests even after the summer is over. We have prepared a few tips to help you with this.

 

1 – DEFINE YOUR PERFECT GUEST IN THE OFF-SEASON

Firstly, the most important thing is to determine who your desired guests outside of the main tourist season are. Analyze the type of your most common guests during this time in the past few years. Were they couples or families with children? Were they local or foreign tourists? Or maybe they were individual guests who came alone? All of this can be important for you to determine the exact activities you can and should offer outside of the main season.

 

2 – OFFER BETTER PRICES

One of the key reasons why tourists go on vacation during the off-season are certainly better prices of accommodation. To get an idea of the average cost of accommodation in your area, first check the prices of your competitors with a similar type of accommodation. Offering affordable prices does not mean that you need to lower them. Aside from lowering them, there are other efficient ways to attract guests. Due to their busy schedule, guests often come only on the weekends during the off-season. Therefore, you should consider offering them a free night if they book more than three days.

 

3 – OFFER NEW ACTIVITIES

Tourists that visit after the summer ends usually look for different activities. Take the time to make a list of recommendations for your guests. Recommend local restaurants that are close, or interesting events which take place in town, like festivals, fairs, and concerts. Check whether you can partner up with your tourist board or event organizers for free discounts for some of the offered activities.

 

4 – ADAPT TO NEW FORMS OF TOURISM

Many off-season tourists want to get away from their fast-paced, city life. To relax, they often go hiking or biking. Most tourists already come with their bicycles, and all you need to do is offer them a space where they can safely store them. Additionally, given the development of medical tourism in the past few years, it would be wise to research if there are any places nearby where tourists go to have different medical procedures done.

 

5 – ASK FOR RECOMMENDATIONS

Everyone knows that nothing beats word-of-mouth recommendations. Try contacting previous guests, especially those that visited in the off-season, and ask them to leave a good review on your website. You may also ask them to recommend you to their friends and acquaintances in exchange for a discount or a free night the next time they visit you.
